S. Ganjuurjav

Honored Industrial Worker

HONORED INDUSTRIAL WORKER OF MONGOLIA

GANJUURJAV SANJAA

S. Ganjuurjav played a key role in developing ferrous and non-ferrous metal production in Mongolia. Leading the Metallurgical Plant Establishment Group, he traveled to Russia, Finland, Japan, Yugoslavia, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland to assess the capacity and product range for Mongolia’s metallurgical industry, conducting economic feasibility studies and overseeing the selection of technological equipment for the Darkhan Metallurgical Plant.

As General Director of the Metallurgical Plant, he prioritized workforce training and skills development, sending employees to Russia, Japan, and China, as well as arranging practical training at Erdenet Factory’s Repair and Mechanical Plant Foundry. He also focused on improving employee housing and living conditions while implementing a quality control system to enhance product standards. Moreover, he was instrumental in introducing express analysis technology to Mongolia for the first time.

As a result of his efforts, the plant's products have been exported to Russia, China, Taiwan, and Japan, and the factory has now successfully implemented the ISO 9000 standard. During the challenging transition from socialism to a market economy, S. Ganjuurjav played a key role in assembling highly skilled professionals from Russia, Mongolia, and Japan, ensuring the completion of the Darkhan Metallurgical Plant in just three years. The plant was then officially handed over to the state.

In 2012, S. Ganjuurjav made a significant contribution to reclaiming the Tumurtei, Tumur Tolgoi, and Khust-Uul iron ore deposits, which were previously under the plant’s ownership. He served as Mongolia’s key witness at the International Arbitration Court in The Hague (Netherlands), providing critical testimony that helped Mongolia regain ownership of these deposits from Chinese control. Recognized for his pivotal role in advancing Mongolia’s steel industry, he is widely regarded as the "Father of Mongolian Steel."

In recognition of his achievements, S. Ganjuurjav has been honored with numerous state and industry awards, including:
  • “Honored Industrial Worker of Mongolia” title
  • The Order of the Polar Star (Altan Gadas)
  • Medal commemorating the 80th anniversary of the People’s Revolution
